Message:I'm pleased that the "Operations Home Sweet Home" bulletin board is still up and active. My family and I just returned from overseas and it's good to be home in the good ol' USofA - even if we are in the desert of northern Nevada. To all my brothers and sisters in that other desert, in the mountains of Afghanistan, at sea, or elsewhere in harm's way, my thoughts and prayers remain with you. I'm looking at 31 years combined enlisted and commissioned service now, and I have to say that the young Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen of today never cease to amaze me with their honor, courage and commitment to our country. You all make me so proud to wear the uniform and serve alongside you. May God bless and keep all of you, and bring you safely home.

Message:As the Memorial weekend has passed now, i think of my families trip to Gatlinburg over the holiday. My husband and I were sitting on a bench people watching. An older gentleman in uniform came over and sat down next to us. We started a conversation about the service men and wars. My husbands father and grandfather were in WW1 and WW2, he spoke in reverence of the service men and women who have served and are serving their country and how proud we should be of them. We agreed and as we sat there, a man and his wife came over to him and asked to shake his hand and thanked him for his service to his country. They explained that they have a son in Iraq serving this holiday, allowing us to enjoy our lives and live free. They were proud to acknowledge his service to his country. We all should be so bold as to go up to a service person and tell them how much we do appreciate their sacrifices and how proud we are to be an American. God Bless the USA.

Message:As we pause this week to honor our veterans, from wars of the past to wars and conflicts today, I want to thank all of you for what you have done for me. I try to do what I can to give back to my veterans in the community and want to remind everyone that "Memorial Day" shouldn't be thought of once a year but every day that you wake up free. Thanks to all of those who served in the past, those serving our country now and those who will serve for our future.

Message:I graduated from Jackson High School in 1984. Shortly after, I joined the US Air Force, where I have been for the last 22 years. I'm not sure why I am posting this message; most of my friends from high school will probably not even remember me. It seems like a very long time ago since I was a part of your community. I have only been back to Jackson a few times since 1984, and sadly, each visit was for a loved ones funeral. One of my dearest friends in the world was a man I worked for at Charlie's Pennzoil and Pop Stop that used to be next to the Tender Fluff donut shop in Jackson. Charlie was a good hearted, rough, gruff, loveable soul that would do anything for anybody. Some of fondest memories in life were of Charlie and working at that gas station. I was saddened greatly to hear of his passing. I wanted to attend his funeral and pay my respects, but like so many times before, the military had other plans for me. After 22 years in the Air Force, and two Gulf Wars, I am retiring from active duty on the 19th of June. Like Charlie Wilson, the Air Force filled a void in my life. As I am now just a few short weeks away from my retirement ceremony, I feel that void again. The retirement ceremony is a very prestigious military event steeped in tradition that allows the military to say good bye, recognize the contributions of the retiring member, and say thank you to his or her family and friends. It marks an achievement that only few will obtain. My Mother and my step Father will be there to witness my retirement, but if there was one person on earth that I would to attend, one person I would want to proudly watch from the bleachers, it would be Charlie….
