JACKSON- In the continuing saga of the City of Jackson versus U.S. Rail Corporation, U.S. Rail has filed a counter-claim and Third Party complaint that includes John T. Evans and Randy Heath as third party defendants.
WELLSTON - As of late, the Wellston City Council meetings have had a slew of public comments concerning the ongoing financial crisis in the City.
WASHINGTON -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced that USDA is accepting applications for grants to help low- and very-low-income rural residents repair their homes.

McARTHUR -- The McArthur American Legion Post 303 baseball team sure likes banging out runs against Bainbridge. In a pair of high-scoring games, including a 13-12 slugfest on Wednesday, Post 303 racked up a pair of victories over Bainbridge Post 14.
WELLSTON -- The annual Toni Parsons Mega Summer Classic, sponsored by the Wellston Ohillco Society, will be held from Friday, July 17 thru Sunday, July 19 at Veterans Park in Wellston. Softball age groups include 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and 16-and-under. Cost for teams in the 8-and-under age division is $150, while all other divisions are $300. Baseball age groups include 8-and-under, 10-and-under and 12-and-under. Cost for teams in the 8-and-under age division is $150, while all other divisions are $200.
WELLSTON -- A co-ed softball tournament, benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Jackson County, will be held July 18-19 at Cecil Arthur Field in Wellston. Each team must consist of at least two women.
The Jackson Football Officials Association is planning a football officiating course beginning Sunday, July 19. Classes will be held over a six-week period. Cost for the class is $100, which covers both instruction and Ohio High School Athletic Association dues for the 2009 season.
David Eugene White, 78, of Tipp City, Ohio, died 1 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the Dayspring Health Care Center, Fairborn, OH, following a brief illness.
Rocky Allan Sturgill, age 50, of Wellston passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Holzer Medical Center of Jackson. He was born in Oak Hill, Ohio June 17, 1959 to the late George Wendell Sturgill and Thelma Jean (Burt) Imes. He was a retired nurse at the Marietta Nursing Home.
